How Age is Counted?

Different cultures follow different methods for age calculation. This tool uses the most common age system, where a person’s age increases by one on their birthday. For example, if someone has lived for 3 years and 11 months, their age is considered 3 until their next birthday, after which they turn 4.

Age Calculation in Different Cultures

• In some cultures, age is counted differently. For example, in traditional Chinese culture, babies are born at age 1, and their age increases at the Chinese New Year rather than on their birthday.
• Some cultures include the current year while counting, meaning a person who is 20 years old may be considered in their 21st year of life.

Handling Month & Day Variations

Calculating age can sometimes be tricky, especially when a date falls at the end of a month. For example:

• From February 20 to March 20 is counted as 1 month.
• However, from February 28 to March 31 can be counted in two ways:
  1. If we count February 28 to March 28 as one month, the result is 1 month and 3 days.
  2. If we count both February 28 and March 31 as month-end dates, then the result is 1 month.

Since months have different numbers of days, our calculator follows the first method for consistency.
